The technology is Earth friendly and works to repel the Zebra and Quagga mussels
The technology was developed by Dr. John Sawyer, who has done a lot of work in water treatment, among other things. He noticed in his experiments that this particular material combination repelled mussels. He was testing in Lake Oohlagah, OK at the time. We formed a company to develop the delivery system and decided to first focus on marinas, boat owners, docks, slips, etc…which is why the current form is a disk that can be easily hung in a slip. We also developed a simple hanging system.
The delivery system for docks is a small 7.5″ soft foam disk that requires nothing more than hanging it in the water, 4′ to 6′ down. As you can understand, the range of effectiveness depends on the conditions present when it is employed, i.e. water temperature, alkalinity, flow patterns, and others. Based upon our research to date, one can expect one disk to have an effective range radius of about 6′ to 8′, and should last up to 8 months. So for a 40′ slip, one would use 6 of them; one in each corner and one midway on each side. Then after 8 months or so, you just pull up the hanging system, replace the disk, and plop it back in the water.
